Aussie Lamb Storms the Capitol!

…and that’s a really good thing.

For restaurant week in DC recently, a little friendly competition was going on with area restaurants menuing Australian lamb. This is the kind of food fight we can get behind, with some really tasty and creative results! Befitting a city as cosmopolitan as DC, the flavors are from all over the world, from Italian to Georgian to Indian to Middle-Eastern.

Here are just a few of the highlights:

Supra  - (top left image)

We love the menu at this Georgian (as in Eastern Europe, not Atlanta) spot in DC – kachapuris galore, and this delicious-looking Australian Lamb Tekmalit – grilled Aussie lamb with a grilled red cabbage salad, and the tekmalit, which is a Georgian plum sauce, in this case made with green plums.

Rasa Grill- (top right image)

Rasa’s playful take on global bowls comes to life with “Open Sesame” - Australian Lamb Kebab Meatballs served on a bed of Basmati Rice with a Peanut Sesame Sauce, Charred Eggplant, Fresh Cucumber, Pickled Onions and topped with Mango Coconut Yogurt and Mint Cilantro Chutney.

Lincoln - (Bottom left image)

Lincoln’s comfort food fare got a seasonal update with Aussie lamb, Italian style – slow braised lamb shoulder with fusilli, buttered radish, English peas, mint-pistachio gremolata.

Rasika – (Bottom right image)

We had to say something about Rasika’s dish…yes those are edible silver leaves! RAAN-E-RASIKA: Australian lamb shank marinated with Kashmiri chili, yogurt, malt vinegar, black cardamom, saffron, bay leaf, cashew nut paste, and pot roasted. Served with its own jus and saffron pulao. Garnished with silver leaves and fried ginger. Worthy of a king!
